New York saxophonist Chris Ward and Aim Audio

Bringing his own distinctive voice to his performances, Chris has developed a remarkably wide range on his instrument. His ability to shift between genres while maintaining a unique musical vocabulary has made him a standout performer and composer across jazz, fusion, pop, indie, and electronica.

With his extensive experience in both recording sessions and live performance, we were thankful that Chris was involved in our double blind listening sound tests as part of Aim’s development.

Bringing his own distinctive voice to his performances, Chris has developed a remarkably wide range on his instrument. His ability to shift between genres while maintaining a unique musical vocabulary has made him a standout performer and composer across jazz, fusion, pop, indie, and electronica.

With his extensive experience in both recording and live performance, we were thankful that Chris was involved in our double blind listening sound tests as part of Aim’s development.

From traditional jazz and technical fusion to pop, indie and electronica, Chris is also a pioneer in the fusion of saxophone and electronic effects. He has been at the forefront of exploring new technologies, integrating effects pedals, synthesizers and digital processing into his playing in innovative and deeply musical ways. While he still demands faithful reproduction of his instrument, his ongoing work with effects continues to redefine the possibilities of the modern saxophone.

Commenting on the Aim INSPIRE, Chris said:

“I don’t lend my support to just anyone, but was happy to be a part of this and Aim have created something truly special here. I’ve been using the Aim Audio mics on saxophones for all of my remote recording projects, and everyone I’ve worked with always asks about the microphones and the color, timbre and clarity they bring to my recordings.”

A master of extended technique, Chris studied at Berklee, NYU and with altissimo expert Lenny Pickett (SNL, Tower of Power). He seamlessly integrates above-the-scale playing into his personal style.

Chris’s career spans from a 12-year collaboration with bassist Felix Pastorius in the co-led projects Hipster Assassins and Social Experiment to an eclectic mix of artists including Josh Groban, Lord Huron, Fischerspooner, Michael Stipe, Mike Stern, Robert Trujillo, Paul Marchand and Alain Johannes. His live performances include New York’s legendary 55 Bar and Radio City Music Hall, while his recording credits also include contributions to video game soundtracks and film scores.
