ORBIT Shockmount

Pop Filter

Many years in development, the Aim Audio team precisely worked out how to make the ultimate mounting solution for our mics. But we went even further than that and come up with something really special.

Aim mics are equipped with an integral direct-to-stand mount thread in the base of the microphone, which makes setting up in tight spaces a breeze. Plus, Aim’s custom capsule holder is also made from an anti-vibration synthetic rubber material, rather than a rigid plastic that’s used in many other mics.

However, for the absolutely best shock-mounting experience and if you want additional mounting options, we’ve developed the ORBIT, our revolutionary and patented multi-position Shock Mount system, along with the SENTRY Magnetic Pop Filter as part of the kit.

Main Features

  • The Ultimate Shock-Mount System for Aim Audio Mics
  • Easy to set up, mics just securely slide in and you’re done
  • Open front design, for ease of control and getting closer to sources
  • Patented 190 degree adjustment angle of the mounting position, makes positioning a breeze
  • Custom non-sagging Lyres, achieves superb rumble attenuation
  • Removable cable relief clip, keeps things tidy but also helps reduce cable-borne rumble
  • Magnetic Resorber Ring, reduces resonances
  • Reversible SENTRY Magnetic Pop Filter, perfectly aligns with capsule
  • Acid etched holes in coated stainless steel filter, directs airflow to catch plosives and avoid loss of HF
  • Made from long Glass-Reinforced Nylon, making it lightweight and virtually indestructible

Aim ORBIT

Shock Mount system, for Aim Audio Microphones

Many years in development, the Aim Audio team precisely worked out how to make the ultimate mounting solution for our mics. But we went even further than that and come up with something really special.

Innovate, not imitate

We’ve all been there – with many shock-mount designs they are fiddly to setup, hard to adjust and a pain getting the exact angle you need for the mic to be pointed at your source. Not to forget, with some of these classic designs, you also don’t always have the confidence that your precious mic is secured firmly.

Well ORBIT is no ordinary shock mount and as it is so easy to use and setup, you’ll wonder what you ever did without it.

Take the Shock

Just like with our microphones, ORBIT has had years of development in working out how to make a better shock mount. In addition, to get closer to sound source and to make the controls on the microphone easily accessible (especially when the mic is in the cradle), we settled on a half-open/open front design.

From the easy to use and secure sliding clamping mechanism, right to the type of suspension, everything has been developed from the ground up and then some.

After very many man hours of physical testing, we chose to not use the regular rubber-band style of elastics that have become the traditional and most common way to suspend a mic cradle. Essentially not only do these sag over time, but they can also introduce all sorts of resonances. So, in the lengthy process of design, we developed our own solid nylon based Lyres to afford the best shock mounting possible.

Placement options

What if you want to use INSPIRE’s Back mode and not have the mount in the way of the controls or peak LEDs? No problem! Can’t get your mic to point exactly where you want it? That’s easy!

With our patented mechanism, you can easily change the angle of the mounting position by 190 degrees, to suit whatever direction you want to ‘Aim’ the capsule at. Side mounting, front, back or any position in between, the twist clamp mechanism can be operated single handily, while the mic stays secure in the custom clamp. This also makes ORBIT great for overheads, in front of instruments or for miking up amps etc.

Topping off the features, the integrated removable cable-relief helps to reduce rumble and handling noise.

Top out the POPs

While INSPIRE has a great integrated dual Steel Mesh pop filter, to help catch the very worst plosives we developed the SENTRY Pop Filter.

The pop filter itself is made with a coated stainless steel, with acid-etched hexagonal holes that have been aligned precisely. These holes and the distance between the filter and capsule have been specifically worked out give the best airflow, all helping to catch great vocals, with an acoustic performance that’s perfect for plosive control.

SENTRY’s surface area also curves around the microphone, so movement should not be an issue, all helping you to achieve the best vocal tracking experience you can.

Easy to place, SENTRY uses custom integrated magnets in four positions. These feature a very high quality localised magnetism to ensure that doesn’t interfere with the microphone’s sensitive electronics and it means that it will always stay exactly where you put it.

It’s also reversible to either direction, so if you want to use the REAR mode on the INSPIRE with a vocalist and still see the controls and peak indicators, you can!

But that’s not all

Many other Shock Mounts on the market have their own resonance that can get into recordings. ORBIT is open at the front, for control access, plus as ORBIT is designed to be lightweight yet extremely strong, we used new materials which meant there can be some small unavoidable resonances. However, with the SENTRY installed, these are completely cancelled out.

But for those times you don’t need a Pop Filter, we developed the Magnetic Resorber Ring. This just drops onto the top when not using the SENTRY, the magnets will do the rest for you and give the best audio performance.

Super sturdy, both ORBIT and SENTRY are also made out of Glass-Reinforced Nylon, which not only helps in reducing material noise, but it also helps make them less likely to be susceptible to breakage. This means in the course of setting them up (or accidently dropping on a solid floor, for example) it shouldn’t result in the mount being heavily damaged – although like with all pro audio kit, you should still treat with care.
